V International Congress of Archaeology of the Eurasian Steppes
On October 11-15, 2022 the V International Congress of Archaeology of the Eurasian Steppes “Eurasian steppe civilization: man and the historical and cultural environment” was held in Turkistan city of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The organizers of the V Congress were the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Margulan of the National Academy of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, International Institute of Central Asian Studies, Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University (Akhmet Yassawi University), Government of Turkistan Region, Kazan Federal University, Institute of Archaeology of the RAS, Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (the Kunstkamera), Institute for the History of Material Culture of the RAS, Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the SB RAS , Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnology of the Peoples of the Far-East of the FEB RAS, Altai State University.
The Congress was attended by scientists and qualified specialists from 28 countries of the world. Within the plenary and sectional sessions 213 reports on urgent issues of archaeology of steppe and crop farming areas were discussed. The proceedings of the congress are published in five volumes covering five main thematic areas – archaeology of the early metal era, early and medieval nomadic era, ancient and medieval cities, as well as issues of preservation and museumification of the archaeological heritage of Eurasia.
Also participants had the opportunity to see local museums, the restored mausoleum of the great Turkic thinker Hoja Ahmed Yassawi, historical and cultural complexes – the ancient cities of Otrar and Sawran.
