On March 17, 2023 Leonid Andreyevich Belyaev, Doctor of History, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Archaeology of Moscow Rus of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, celebrates his 75th anniversary.
For many years of scientific activity L.A. Belyaev became the major specialist in Russia and abroad in the study of the culture of Eastern Europe of the Late Middle Ages and early Modern times, one of the most authoritative leaders in the study of architectural archaeology and church antiquities. Modern scholars of humanities firmly associate his name with the study of Moscow Rus sites, excavations of monasteries and monastic necropolises of the XIV-XVIII centuries. The sites studied by him in Tatarstan, particularly in Sviyazhsk and Bolgar, have become to a large extent basic for researchers of the Volga region.
We know and appreciate Leonid Andreyevich Belyaev not only as a professional scientist and specialist, but also as a loyal and reliable mate and friend, a tactful person of ready sympathy who is always prepared to help in difficult times. The collective body of the Institute congratulates Leonid Andreyevich and wishes him good health, new discoveries, large-scale projects and works!
