For many years of scientific activity L.A. Modern scholars of humanities firmly associate his name with the study of Moscow Rus sites, excavations of monasteries and monastic necropolises of the XIV-XVIII centuries. The sites studied by him in Tatarstan, particularly in Sviyazhsk and Bolgar, have become to a large extent basic for researchers of the Volga region.
