The exhibition of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, devoted to a resulting collegium of the Committee for Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Republic of Tatarstan and the State Committee on Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan

On January 16, 2023 Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev took part in a resulting collegium of the State Committee on Tourism and the Committee for Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites held in the new IT-Park in Kazan. For the event the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences  prepared the exhibition, which presented the main results of archaeological studies of the institute in 2022.

The participants of the meeting had an opportunity to see the archaeological artifacts from the collections of the Museum of Archaeology of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov, found on the territory of the republic in 2022. One of the show-cases was devoted to the archeological studies on the territory of the Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex. A large number of mass finds (ceramics, animal bones, industrial slags) and more than 80 individual findings, mainly represented by household items, fragments of jewelry and coins, were found during archaeological works in 2022. In the course of studies there were revealed cultural strata of the Golden Horde period (XIV century) and the Russian settlement period (XVIII-XX centuries). Besides, 19 archaeological objects were found. Among them: a defensive moat, presumably dating to the pre-Mongolian period, the remains of houshold pits and basements dating to the XIV and XVIII centuries, as well as three burials of the XIV century.

In the show-cases there were also presented the results of work on the territory of the historical part of Kazan within the boundaries of the cultural heritage site of regional (republican) Place of interest “Cultural layer of the historical center of the city of Kazan in the XI-XVIII centuries”. The excavations revealed a significant amount of material remains of everyday life and household use: coins, items made of iron, copper plate, leather goods, copper buttons, glass bottles, tiles, faience plates, porcelain saucers, pottery.
