Specialists of the Institute of Archaeology of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences participate in the preservation of the archaeological heritage site “Old Totma Usolye”

On November 19, 2022, a meeting on the preservation of the archaeological heritage site “Old Totma Usolye” was held at the Totma Museum Association.

The event was attended by the specialists of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences: head of the Institute A.G. Sitdikov, museum chief  Ye.F. Shaikhutdinova and wood restoration specialist A.R. Makhmutov.

The archaeological site “Old Totma Usolye” is located in the village of Varnitsy in Totma district of Vologda Oblast, where wooden structures and constructions associated with the commercial use of this territory have been identified: parts of wooden brine pipeline routes, a brine well, etc. The staff of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences got acquainted with the results of archaeological research, shared their restoration experience and gave recommendations for the preservation of wooden constructions.

Following the meeting, further joint projects are planned within the framework of the agreement on cooperation between the Totma Museum Association and the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.
