9th Scientific Conference “Dialogue of Urban and Steppe Cultures in the Eurasian Space” dedicated to the Memory of G.A. Fedorov-Davydov
The scientific conference dedicated to the memory of an outstanding scientist, renowned archaeologist and numismatist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences G.A. Fedorov-Davydov has been held since 2001. The idea of holding the conference was supported by archaeologists studying the Golden Horde archaeology and the ethnopolitical processes in the medieval Volga Region. The first conference held in Nizhny Novgorod in the fall of 2001 was attended by over 90 researchers from universities, museums, research institutions of Azov, Astrakhan, Almetyevsk, Bolgar, Volgograd, Voronezh, Yoshkar-Ola, Kazan, Kirov, Moscow and Ufa. The organizers were the Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University and the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the participation of other scientific and educational institutions of Russia.
Eight conferences have been organized over the twenty years, held on a regular basis in different settlements associated with scientific centers for the study of the Golden Horde, or at places of work of G.A. Fedorov-Davydov’s students and colleagues. Participation in the conference is prestigious, and it has received international recognition. In addition to Russian archaeologists, these events were attended by many researchers from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Kazakhstan, China, Romania, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Sweden, and others. The purpose of these international conferences is to coordinate the work of domestic and foreign researchers of various specializations studying the issues of the history of the Golden Horde and the wide international influence of the Mongol states in the Middle Ages.
In recent years, the conference organizers have been the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and Mari State University, with the participation of other scientific and educational institutions of Russia.
The forthcoming 9th Scientific Conference dedicated to the memory of G.A. Fedorov-Davydov “The Dialogue of Urban and Steppe Cultures in the Eurasian Space” will be held on May 16-20 in Saratov at the venue of the “Russia - My History” Historical Park multimedia educational complex.
As a result of the conference, the materials are planned to be published in the “Archaeology of the Eurasian Steppes” international peer-reviewed journal.
