9th Scientific Conference “Dialogue of Urban and Steppe Cultures in the Eurasian Space” Dedicated to the Memory of G.A. Fedorov-Davydov

The 9th All-Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation “Dialogue of Urban and Steppe Cultures in the Eurasian Space” dedicated to the memory of G.A. Fedorov-Davydov was held in Saratov on May 16-20, 2022. The conference was organized by the “Russia – My History” Historical Park (Saratov), the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Mari State University, ANO “Research Center” and ANO “Living History” with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund.

The event was held in memory of German Alekseevich Fedorov-Davydov – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University, one of the founders and Head of the Volga archaeological expedition, teacher and mentor of many Russian and foreign specialists in medieval archaeology (1931-2000).

Previous conferences were held in Nizhny Novgorod (2001), Kazan and the Republic of Mari El (2003), Moscow (2006), Azov (2008), Astrakhan Oblast (2011), Bolgar (2013), Yalta (2016), Pyatigorsk (2018).

During the conference, scientists from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Orenburg, Astrakhan, Penza, Samara, Volgograd, Voronezh, Ulyanovsk, Ufa, Pyatigorsk, Azov, Stavropol Krai, as well as the Republics of Kalmykia, Kazakhstan, Mari El, Mordovia, Tatarstan, Crimea and the Donetsk People’s Republic presented over 50 reports on various issues related to the archaeology of the Golden Horde. The reports submitted for the conference were published in the international peer-reviewed scientific journal “Archaeology of the Eurasian Steppes” published by the Institute of Archaeology named after A. Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.

The participants of the conference noted the high scientific level of the reports, good organization, creative atmosphere, efficiency and success of the scientific event. It was decided at the conference that the 10th Scientific Conference dedicated to the memory of G.A. Fedorov-Davydov will take place in Penza in two years.
