The 4th edition “The Central Bazaar of Bolgar and its surroundings (interdisciplinary research based on excavation materials of 2011–2019)” presents the first results of many years of archaeological research on one of the main city-forming units of medieval Bolgar – the covered bazaar, located in the very center of the city. Data on the architecture of the bazaar, trade inventory, the planning structure of the surrounding urban development and handicraft production on the estates that surrounded the bazaar and preceded it are presented. Special value of the publication is attached to the data of natural-science research, carried out for the first time in Bolgar and which made it possible to see the system of its life support, the natural environment, and the economy of the Volga Bulgaria in a new way.
The publication is intended for archaeologists, specialists in the history of Tatarstan and Russia in general and for anyone interested in the history of the Volga region.
