Opening of the IX International archaeological school
On August 16, in the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, in the conference hall of the exhibition complex ” Memorial Sign for the Adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgarians in 922″, took place the opening of the IX International archaeological school, which will be held in this year in two stages: from August 15 to 28 – it will be held on the basis of the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve; from September 12 to 25 – in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan.
The IX International Archaeological School was organized by the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, the Kazan (Volga) Federal University, the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, the International Center for Central Asian Studies, Samarkand State University, “Silk Road” International University of Tourism.
On the occasion of the opening of the School the scientific secretary of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences R.R. Sattarov; senior researcher at the Research Institute and Museum of Anthropology of Moscow State University, deputy director for science of the Scientific and Educational Center for Paleoanthropological Research D.V. Pezhemsky addressed the participants with welcoming words and congratulations. It was gratifying to see among the guests and employees of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve A.N. Faskhutdinov, deputy director for science of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve, R.G. Akhmetzyanov, deputy director for general issues, etc.
More than 50 people from different countries – Russia, Belarus, Colombia, Syria, Turkey, Palestine – participated in the 1st stage of the School. Within two weeks young researchers will have to master interdisciplinary approaches to the study and preservation of historical and cultural heritage within the framework of such scientific areas as: archaeozoology; ancient ceramics: history, technology and restoration; paleoanthropology; restoration of archaeological items. A series of lectures and field classes aimed at familiarizing students with the issues of preserving and studying the cultural heritage of the Russian Federation and current field research technologies are also planned.
