Joint archaeological reconnaissances in the Pre-Volga region conducted by the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and the Chuvash State Institute of the Humanities
From November 1-7, 2022, within the framework of the plan of joint scientific research of the Chuvash State Institute of the Humanities and the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences for 2022-2024 archaeological reconnaissances were made in the Apastovo, Buinsk districts of the Republic of Tatarstan and in the Yalchiki, Batyrevo, Ibresi, Shemursha districts of the Chuvash Republic. The research fellow of the security research department Khamzin R.N., head of the primeval archaeology department, candidate of historical sciences Galimova M.Sh., senior research fellow of the medieval archaeology department, candidate of historical sciences Valiyev R.R., senior research fellow of the primeval archaeology department, candidate of historical sciences Lyganov A.V. participated in the archaeological works on the part of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov.
During the works the valleys of the Bula and Malaya Bula rivers, as well as their tributaries were examined. In the Apastovo district of the Republic of Tatarstan near the village of Aksu on the Aksu river was marked a tombstone, also the current state of the Tutayevo barrow and the Kzyl-Tau settlement was determined. Near the village of Yanshikhovo in the Batyrevo district of the Chuvash Republic on the left bank of the Bula river an attempt was made to determine the location of the Golden Horde settlement, also nearby the village of Novoe Kotyakovo both banks of the Chesnokovka river, the left tributary of the Bula river, were examined. In addition, the Tigashevo fortified settlement and the Tigashevo IV settlement (pre-Mongol time) were inspected. As a result, a рlаn of the fortified settlement taken with the use of measuring devices was made, ceramic finds were collected on the ploughed field. Near the village of Imenevo in the Batyrevo district of the Chuvash Republic two Bronze Age barrows were inspected. In the village of Shemursha a sand-pit was examined, where a bronze celt belonging to Srubnaya culture (Timber-grave culture) was found during cleaning of the outcrop.
In general, it is worth noting the importance of conducting regular joint field works by archaeologists of Tatarstan and Chuvashia. It is planned to further research of the adjacent regions of both republics within the framework of these studies.
