International Exhibition-Forum “The Road-2022”

On October 12-14 in Kazan with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation M.Sh. Khusnullin, President of the Republic of Tatarstan R.N. Minnikhanov, Director of the Institute of Archaeology of the RAS N.A. Makarov, the International Specialized Exhibition-Forum “The Road-2022” was held.

The exhibition-forum “Road” is the largest industrial discussion platform in our country, which brings together authoritative international experts and key representatives of the road-transport complex of Russia from the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Rosavtodor, Main Directorate for traffic safety, executive authorities of the subjects of the Russian Federation. The exhibition-forum is traditionally held on the eve of the Road Sector Workers’ Day with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

At the forum the Institute of Archaeology of the RAS  together with the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences presented archaeological findings found during rescue archaeological studies of the M-12 highway in 2021-2022, and an exhibition of photos “The Road of Millennium”.

Archaeological studies in the construction zone of the M-12 Moscow– Nizhny Novgorod–Kazan speedway has become one of the largest archaeological projects in terms of scale and significance. During the rescue archaeological works 25 archaeological sites of various periods were studied, the total area of the excavations was more than 18 hectares. While excavating, archaeologists have revealed more than 370 thousand artifacts that demonstrate the diversity and richness of the culture of tribes and peoples who lived in these places in the Mesolithic and Bronze Ages, the Middle Ages and Modern Times.
