Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan joined the “Cultural Code” Consortium
On March 30, 2022, the building of the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg hosted a meeting of the Council of the “Cultural Code” Consortium of Digital Archaeology.
The purpose of the consortium is to unite the efforts of leading Russian universities, academic institutions, and cultural institutions to provide sustainable and continuous technological and humanitarian support for the introduction of digital technologies in all areas of the study and preservation of historical and cultural heritage.
The consortium agreement was signed by the representatives of five academic institutions and 15 Russian universities, including Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg State University. In Saint Petersburg, the “Cultural Code” Consortium was joined by the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and Kazan Federal University.
The specific tasks that the consortium intends to resolve are the compilation of an archaeological map of Russia, development of neural networks and computer vision to increase the objectivity and speed of the analysis of archaeological finds, creation of three-dimensional models of archaeological sites, testing of technologies for creating a digital twin and storing information about an archaeological site.
