Cooperation between the restorers of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan with the archaeologists of Orenburg State Pedagogical University
The archaeological laboratory of Orenburg State Pedagogical University, hosted a visiting session of the Restoration Council of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. At the meeting, specialists of the Museum of Archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan – II category artist-restorer Pavel Vladimirovich Fedan and III category artist-restorer Polina Yuryevna Kaplan – examined items from the excavations of the Barrow group 2 near Kalikino village in the Grachevsky District of Orenburg Oblast for the purpose of their further restoration.
The barrow group was investigated in 2021 by the Orenburg archaeological expedition of Orenburg State Pedagogical University under the supervision of the chief research associate, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Nina Leonidovna Morgunova. Items of the 4th-2nd centuries BC (an ornamented box and a mirror) were discovered in one of the complexes. The finds, due to their fragility, were recovered as a monolith in the field. The main portion of the monolith was mainland clay, which contained a mirror and a box.
The restorers dismantled the monolith, and then strengthened the weakened surface of the box, and prepared the finds for transportation. Further restoration activities will be carried out in the Restoration Laboratory of the Museum of Archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.
