XI International Archaeological School in Uzbekistan

On September 24, 2024, the Termez State University hosted the opening of the second stage of the XI International Archaeological School.

The organizers of this scientific and educational project are the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (Samarkand, Uzbekistan), Termez State University (Termez, Uzbekistan), Tatarstan Academy of Sciences (Kazan, Russia), Samarkand Archaeological Institute (Samarkand), Termez Archaeological Museum (Termez, Uzbekistan), Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (Kazan, Russia).

At the plenary session, a video message by Rifkat N. Minnikhanov, the President of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, was delivered at the plenary session, the Rector of Termez State University, the Director of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, the Vice-Rector for education of Termez State University and other organizers of the School also made a welcoming speech to the participants of the School.
The School is attended by 65 participants: students, postgraduates, young scientists from 9 regions of Russia and 5 foreign countries (Kazakhstan (Astana), Kyrgyzstan (Osh), Uzbekistan (Samarkand, Termez, Andijon, Tashkent), Pakistan (Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad), Egypt (Cairo), China (Beijing, Guangzhou).

The second stage of the school is organised in the following interdisciplinary scientific areas: basic principles of the methodology of use-wear analysis of the functions of ancient tools; field conservation and restoration of archaeological objects, made of ceramic and metal; photogrammetry, restoration and 3D-modelling of archaeological structures and objects of ancient tools. Along with scientific and practical work within the sections, the participants will hear the general course of lectures. And, by tradition, the School will end with the final international youth scientific-practical conference “Interdisciplinary research in archaeology: achievements and challenges” (October 5, 2024), where the participants will present reports on the results of their research work.
