X International scientific conference “The dialogue of urban and steppe cultures in the Eurasian space”
On May 15, 2024 the X International scientific conference “Dialogue of urban and steppe cultures in the Eurasian space” opened in Penza, at the Regional library named after M.Yu. Lermontov. The event is organized by the Institute for Regional Development of the Penza region together with the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Mari State University with the support of the governor of Penza region O.V. Melnichenko. The conference is part of the series of events timed to the 10th anniversary of the Institute of Archaeology TAS.
The conference is attended by more than 140 researchers from leading scientific institutions and institutes of Russia, near and far abroad. O.V. Vyagov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Penza region, A.I. Lomov, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Penza region took part in the opening of the event. The President of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences R.N. Minnikhanov addressed a video greeting.
At the plenary meeting, reports were presented by the Rector of the Institute for Regional Development of the Penza region G.N. Belorybkin on the topic “Penza region and the Golden Horde”, by the Director of the Institute of Archaeology TAS A.G. Sitdikov on the topic “Lapas mausoleum complex: studies in 2018-2023” and by the senior lecturer at the National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” A.I. Khavansky on the topic “Studies of medieval mausoleums in the Koptam natural boundary in Western Kazakhstan”.
The conference is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scientist, famous archaeologist and numismatist, doctor of historical sciences, professor of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, one of the founders and leaders of the Volga Archaeological Expedition G.A. Fyodorov-Davydov.
The main topics of the conference are related to the study of the history, archaeology, historical geography of the regions of the Golden Horde and other states related with the history of the Mongol Empire period, their role in the medieval world.
