The International scientific conference “The World of Genghis Khan and Mongolian studies”

From August 5 to August 10, 2022, the International scientific conference “The World of Genghis Khan and Mongolian studies” was held in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), organized under the auspices of the President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh. It is dedicated to the 860th anniversary of the birth of Genghis Khan, the founder of the Mongol Empire.

The conference was attended by 54 specialists from 14 countries. The conference was organized within the following areas: “Mongolian history and ethnography”, “Mongolian language and literature”, “Mongolian cultural world”, “Mongols and the outer world”, “Mongolian cultural heritage and archaeological research”, “Genghis Khan and the modern world”. During the conference urgent scientific problems and the results of studies, scientific-methodical and scientific-innovative activities were discussed, and information was exchanged on scientific achievements in the field of Mongolian studies.

The conference was attended by the head of the Institute of Archeology of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Doctor of History A.G. Sitdikov with a report on studies under item 1.18. “Conducting  of the 2 stage of historical and archaeological studies (expeditions) of medieval Turkic-Tatar cities outside the Republic of Tatarstan: Kasimov (Ryazan region), mausoleums at Lapas village (Astrakhan region), Bai-Balyk (Mongolia), Tsaryov settlement (Volgograd region)”in the framework of the State program of the Republic of Tatarstan “Preservation of the national identity of the Tatar people (2020-2024)”.

The Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences keeps extending and developing relations with leading scientific organizations within the framework of studies under the state program. In Ulaanbaatar agreements on cooperation were signed between the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and the Museum of Genghis Khan and the nobility (Mongolia), as well as the Institute of History and Ethnography of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. Within the framework of the agreement joint studies on the early medieval settlement of Bai-Balyk and its surroundings in the valley of the Selenga river (Mongolia) will be continued.
