Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and leading universities join efforts to study the heritage of the Golden Horde

On May 14, 2025, as part of KazanForum2025, the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences signed an agreement on cooperation with the Astrakhan State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering.

The primary focus of the joint effort will be the study of a unique mausoleum complex from the era of Uzbek Khan, located near the village of Lapas in Astrakhan Oblast. The initial results of this collaboration are already impressive: specialists have successfully developed several reconstruction proposals for the ancient mausoleum and created a 3D model of the structure. These achievements are now showcased at an exhibition by the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov in the KazanExpo pavilion.
The new agreement aims to combine the expertise of archaeologists and architects for a comprehensive study of historical and cultural heritage. Both universities possess extensive experience in applying digital technologies to preserve architectural monuments, unlocking significant opportunities for scientific advancements.

The project holds particular significance in the context of advancing modern methods for studying and preserving artifacts from the Golden Horde period. The use of cutting-edge 3D modeling technologies not only facilitates the documentation of discoveries but also enables the reconstruction of lost elements of historical structures.

This collaboration marks a new phase in interdisciplinary research, where traditional archaeological methods are integrated with innovative architectural solutions and digital tools.
