Round table “Medieval history of the Turkic-Tatar world of the Volga-Oka region”
On September 16, in Penza, the Museum of Regional Studies hosted a round table “The medieval history of the Turkic-Tatar world of the Volga-Oka region”. The event was organized by the Institute of Archaeology of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences jointly with the Institute for Regional Development of the Penza Region and the Regional Public Organization “Tatar National and Cultural Autonomy of the Penza Region”.
More than 35 specialists from Kazan, Penza, Yoshkar-Ola, representing scientific and scientific-educational institutions, as well as the Tatar National and Cultural Autonomy of the Penza Region took part in the round table in online and offline formats.
During the speeches, the main results of the archaeological studies at the Narovchat settlement (Mokhsha), the capital of the Kasimov Khanate – Kasimov, were summed up. These studies were carried out under the state program of the Republic of Tatarstan “Preservation of the national identity of the Tatar people”. The participants also presented reports on the medieval archaeology of the Turkic-Tatars of the Cis-Volga and Moksha River regions, new materials on the history of the Trans-Kama in the Kazan region in the XVIII century, on the museumification and restoration of archaeological sites at the Narovchat settlement.
All reports aroused great interest. The participants expressed their interest in further cooperation.
