Valiev Renat Rafailovich
Senior Researcher Associate of the Medieval Archaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences
Valiev Renat Rafailovich (December 5, 1980, Balykly-Chukaevo village of the Tatar ASSR) – Archaeologist, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Expert in Medieval Archaeology of the Middle and Lower Volga Regions. Senior Research Associate of the Medieval Archaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. He graduated from the Faculty of History, Tatar Philology and Foreign Languages of the Tatar State University of Humanities and Education in 2003. In 2005-2014 he worked at the National Center for Archaeological Research of the Institute of History named after Sh. Mardzhani of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences as a Researcher, Research Associate and Senior Research Associate. Since 2010, he concurrently worked as Head of the Center for the Study of Bolgar Civilization of the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve. In 2006, he graduated from the postgraduate school of the Institute of History named after Sh. Mardzhani of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences under the supervision of F.Sh. Khuzin, and defended a thesis “Leather and Shoemaking Industry of the Khan Kazan” in 2010. He is the author of over 40 scientific works. Since the period of studying at the graduate school (since 2004), Renat Rafailovich has participated and conducted independent field archaeological studies in the Kazan Kremlin and the historical part of Kazan; studies in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan include Nizhnetaganskoye II settlement (2008), Kurkulskoye II settlement (2008), the Island Town of Sviyazhsk (2008), Syukeyevskoye I ancient village “Mazarki” (2009), Bolgar settlement (2010- 2013), Starokuibyshevsky complex of monuments (since 2014); studies in the territory of Russia comprise Selitrennoye settlement and the monuments located in the delta of the Volga river (2005-2009, 2013-2014) and the historical part of Saint Petersburg (2010). Since 2014, he has conducted surveys and archaeological excavations of the monuments located within the impact area of Kuibyshev reservoir in the Spassky District.
Academic interests: archaeology of Volga Bolgaria, the Golden Horde and the Kazan Khanate.
