On the Day of Turkic Writing archaeologists of Tatarstan took part in the forum under the auspices of UNESCO

On December 15, 2022 the UNESCO Headquarters (Paris, France) hosted the International forum “Turkic civilization in world culture: the inscription of  Elterish Kutlug-Kagan”, organized by the International Turkic Academy (TWESCO). The event took place on the Day of Turkic Writing and was timed to the upcoming celebration of the 130th anniversary of the deciphering of the Orkhon-Yenisei runic script by Danish scientist Wilhelm Thomsen (December 15, 1893).

The forum brought together prominent scientists-turkologists from 12 countries (Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Sweden and Russia). More than 40 researchers as well as heads of diplomatic departments in France from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Turkey took part in the forum. Russia was represented at the forum by the Director of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor A.G. Sitdikov and the Head of the Department of Medieval Archaeology, Candidate of Historical Sciences D.K. Tulush.

In all, 18 scientific reports, dedicated to the main subject – the archaeological study of the ritual complex of  Elterish Bilge-Kagan in the Nomgon plain of the Mongolian People’s Republic (2019-2022), the study and deciphering of the  Orkhon-Yenisey script, found  in  this site, as well as issues and problems of study and preservation of monuments, material and non-material culture of Turkic period were presented at the forum. The reports and abstracts of papers were made by Shain Mustafayev – Doctor of Historical Sciences, President of the International Turkic Academy; Hasan Hasanov – former Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, member of the OTS Council of Elders; Sultan Raev – Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY); Mahmud Erol Kılıç – General Director of the Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA); Duger Regdel – President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences; Muzaffar Sheker – President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences and others.

The work of the main part of the forum ended with the opening of the photo exhibition of the ritual complex and the stele with the inscriptions in honor of Elterish Kutluk-Kagan. The forum participants also visited the house where the prominent Kazakh public and political figure M. Shokay (Chokay) (1890-1941) lived for many years and the grave of Azerbaijani public and political figure A. Topchibashev (1862-1934).
