Information and Editorial Department

The Information and Editorial Department was established in January 2017. The activity of the department is to conduct applied research in the field of archaeology. The purpose of research activities is scientific documentation of the activities of research institutions of Tatarstan on the study of archaeological sites, allowing to form a source base for the study of archaeological science in the Republic of Tatarstan, to create the most complete historiographical collection on the issues of archaeology of Eurasia in general and the Ural-Volga region in particular.

Also the Information and Editorial Department makes layout and editorial preparation for publication of the Institute’s works; entering data on the Institute’s publications and activities into information databases, websites and other apps.

The main tasks of the Information and Editorial Department:

– acquisition of documents and library collection in accordance with the scientific specialization of the Institute;

– keeping the documents and library collections in accordance with normative acts;

– scientific and technical processing of Scientific fund materials;

– Organization of scientific use of the fund’s materials in scientific, educational and scientific-popularization activities of the Institute of Archaeology TAS by gratuitous transfer to the archival and library divisions of research institutions in the relevant areas. Organizing the literature exchange with key partners, including foreign ones;

– information support (literature selection) of scientific research of employees, post-graduate students and research trainees;

– Providing information on official requests of third-party organizations and agencies on archaeological studies in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan. Selection of material, copying, scanning on a free and paid basis;

providing methodological assistance to organizations of the Republic of Tatarstan engaged in keeping the documentary materials of archaeological research;

– electronic copying of Scientific fund’s documents and formation of an electronic insurance fund;

– integration into the global information space. Popularization of scientific achievements (regular updating of information on the Institute’s website, thematic blocks, thematic publications in newspapers, on television, and other mass media, preparation of popular science books, booklets and albums on the ancient history of the Volga-Ural region and on the preservation and study of archaeological heritage of the Republic of Tatarstan). Supporting the activities of the Institute’s official website and websites of the official publications of the Institute, providing information about the activities of the Institute for the official website of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences; Inclusion of the Institute’s publications in thematic scientific databases, including scientometric ones;

– editorial work on preparation for publication and layout of the Institute’s publications;

– Supporting the field work of archaeologists by assisting them in drawing up applications and argumentation for excavation licenses, control and accompanying the examination of excavation license applications and archaeological reports at the Field Research Department of the Institute of Archaeology RAS, and assistance in stitching archaeological reports;

— preparation of cartographic material for the region (republic) and territory district under study (search, scanning, copying of ancient and modern maps in the archives of the Russian Federation).
