Exhibition of the Institute of Archaeology of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences was held at the collegium of the Committee for Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Republic of Tatarstan
On January 22, 2024, Chistopol hosted the resulting collegium of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan L.R. Fazleeva, federal and republican officials, public and scientific organizations.
A.A. Temirkhanov, Vice-President of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, made a report on the implementation of the plan of main events for the Year of scientific and technological development in the Republic of Tatarstan.
Specialists of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov TAS prepared an exhibition where participants had an opportunity to see the results of security research in the historical part of Kazan and Sviyazhsk, planned scientific excavations of archaeological sites in the Alekseyevskoye district of the Republic of Tatarstan (Bilyar ancient settlement) and Kharabali district of the Astrakhan region (Khan mausoleums complex of the Uzbek-khan period nearby the village of Lapas).
Special attention deserves the archaeological studies of the mausoleum complex. They were started by the Institute of Archaeology TAS back in 2018 as part of the state program of the Republic of Tatarstan “Preservation of the national identity of the Tatar people”. The mausoleums are believed to belong to the khans of the Golden Horde and their entourage. During the excavations of the biggest mausoleum numerous fragments of architectural decorations in different techniques, brick flooring in the inner part of the mausoleum, etc. were discovered.
