The monograph contains materials of the first archaeological works on «The town-island of Sviyazhsk» cultural and historical heritage monument of the Republic of Tatarstan. Archaeological exploration of the territory of the monument and excavations of its architectural objects made it possible for the first time to determine the unique value of the cultural layer of the coastal settlements of Sviyazhsk and raise the issue of their protection, research and museumification, contributed to the creation of a model museum-reserve with a specialized center for the research and conservation of wood. These works have not yet been published. The first issue of “Materials and Research on the archeology of Sviyazhsk” is intended to fill this gap.
