Archaeology Open Days in Kazan

On August 16 and 17, 2024 the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh.Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences together with the Manege Exhibition Hall of the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve and the internet edition “Миллиард.Татар” will hold events, dedicated to the Archaeologist’s Day.
The events will be held as a part of the Archaeology Open Days, an educational and popular scientific project of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the main purpose of which is to introduce a wide range of audience to knowledge about the history and archaeology, archaeological and historical sites of our country and methods of archaeological research.
August 16 at 18.00 will begin the lecture-promenade “The Kazan Kremlin through the eyes of an archaeologist” by Doctor of History, corresponding member of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, chief research fellow at the Medieval Archaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Fayaz Sharipovich Khuzin. Today the Kazan Kremlin is not only the most recognizable symbol of Kazan, but also an important site of historical and cultural heritage of the whole world. On January 22, 2024 the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve celebrated its 30th anniversary. Throughout the time of its functioning, the Kremlin has been the center of attraction for all residents and guests of Kazan of various professions and the object of close attention of archeologists who have been studying it for more than 100 years. Fayaz Sharipovich’s lecture- promenade is a kind of excursion through the milestones of Kazan’s history and the Kremlin itself. Participants of the lecture-promenade will walk around the places of the most significant excavations on the territory of the Kremlin and learn how it was and is seen by professional archaeologists, how to determine the age of Kazan, where the most famous finds were found.
After the lecture, participants will visit the exposition “In search of ancient kingdoms …” in the Manege Exhibition Hall. The event will be held as part of the lecture “Миллиард.Татар” with the support of the internet edition “Миллиард.Татар”.

On August 17 from 14.00 to 16.00 at the exhibition “In search of ancient kingdoms…” a miracle will happen and figures of the past will come to life. Visitors to the exhibition will become spectators of the program “Living History” and will see how primitive man made fire, what equipment was used by archaeologists of the 1980s to make scientific discoveries, and will get acquainted with the most significant archaeological artifacts, found by the specialists of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh.Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.
