Archaeological excavations began on the territory of the Bilyar State Historical, Archaeological and Natural Museum
On July 1, 2023 the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences jointly with the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnology named after B. Zhamgerchinov of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bilyar State Historical, Archaeological and Natural Museum, Kazan Federal University continued long-term planned archaeological studies of the site of federal significance “Bilyar settlement is one of the capitals of the Volga Bolgaria” on the territory of the Bilyar State Historical, Archaeological and Natural Museum.
The studies are being conducted within the framework of the project “Medieval urban cities on transcontinental trade routes of Eurasia: urban centers of the Chuy Valley and the Middle Volga region”, supported by a grant from IICAS (Samarkand). The expedition is also supported by the administration of the Alekseyevskoye district of Tatarstan.
In addition to the staff of scientific institutions, firs-year students of the Institute of International Relations KFU, who do practical work (archaeological practice), take part in the expedition.
The works are carried out in the central part of the Inner city, 200 m west of the Cathedral Mosque.
