All-Russian scientific meeting “Archaeozoology in Russia: studies of the XXI century”
On September 25-27, 2023, Bolgar hosted the All-Russian scientific meeting “Archaeozoology in Russia: studies of the XXI century”, dedicated to the ninetieth anniversary of the birth of Doctor of Biology Aida G. Petrenko.
This event was held by the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences represented by the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov and the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use, as well as the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve.
Aida G. Petrenko (16.09.1933 – 27.01.2010) – Doctor of Biology, the largest specialist in the field of archaeozoology of the USSR and the Russian Federation. For almost half a century, her scientific activity took place in cooperation with archaeologists in the Department of Archaeology of the G. Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and History, and then – the National Center for Archaeological Studies of the Institute of History named after Sh. Marjani of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.
The meeting was attended by more than 30 archaeozoologists and archaeologists representing leading academic institutes and higher education institutions of Kazan, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Samara, Tver, Perm. The sessions discussed general and specific issues of studying ecology, paleogenetics and morphology of domestic and wild animals not only in the Volga-Ural region, but also in Altai, Western and Eastern Siberia, Crimea, Taman Peninsula, Dnieper-Dvina watershed, the center of the East European Plain and Kazakhstan.
As a result of the meeting in Bolgar it was decided to make this fruitful scientific event regular (with intervals of two years).
