XI International Archaeological School started its work in Bolgar
On August 14, 2024, the XI Bolgar International Archaeological School was opened in the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve with the support of the History of the Fatherland Foundation.
The plenary session featured a video address by the President of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences R.N. Minnikhanov, and a welcoming speech was made by the Director of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov TAS A.G. Sitdikov; Deputy Director for Science of the Bolgar Museum-Reserve A.N. Fakhrutdinov; senior research fellow at the Research Institute and Museum of Anthropology of Moscow State University, PhD in Biology D.V. Pezhemsky (Moscow); head of the Department of conservation and use of the archaeological heritage of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, PhD in History A.V. Kostyukevich (Minsk, Belarus); senior research fellow at the Experimental Traceological Laboratory IHMC RAS, PhD in History N.N. Skakun (St. Petersburg).
The organizers of the scientific and educational project are the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov TAS, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan).
The School is attended by 68 students, postgraduates, young scientists from 16 regions of Russia and 5 foreign countries: Azerbaijan (Baku), Belarus (Minsk), Kazakhstan (Uralsk), Kyrgyzstan (Osh), Uzbekistan (Samarkand, Termez).
The School agenda will cover such topical interdisciplinary scientific fields as: archaeobotany and palaeopedology, archaeozoology and palaeoanthropology. Along with scientific and practical work within sections, participants will be given a general course of lectures. And, by tradition, the work will be completed by the final international youth scientific-practical conference “Interdisciplinary research in archaeology: achievements and challenges” (August 25, 2024), where participants will present reports on the results of their research work.
