The results of the exhibition “In search of ancient kingdoms…”
On November 10, 2024, the exhibition “In search of ancient kingdoms …” from the collection of the Museum of Archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, completed its work in the Manege Exhibition Hall of the Kazan Kremlin.
From April 18 to November 10, 2024, the exhibition was visited by about 20,000 people, including groups and individual visitors.
The exhibition project was realized by the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov TAS jointly with the Kazan Kremlin Museum-Reserve by the support of the leading museums ofTatarstan: Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, Bilyar State Historical, Archaeological and Natural Museum-Reserve, Island-City Sviyazhsk Museum-Reserve, and Kazan Icons Private Museum.
The exhibition presented more than 1759 archaeological finds from the collection of the Museum of Archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan, found at the most significant archaeological sites of our republic. The general public was presented unique items from the burials of the Early Bolgar period of the Tankeevka burial ground (IX-XI cc.), imported ware from the Bolgar settlement and ancestral tamga from the Bilyar settlement (XI-XIII cc.), stone steles and burial set from the Murzikha burial ground (IX-VI cc. BC), early stone tools, discovered in the territory of Tatarstan (17-8 thousand years ago), bones of the ancient animals (24-10 thousand years ago). The total number of finds on display at the exhibition – more than 2000 items of historical and cultural heritage.
The exhibition was accompanied by educational events: action “Revived Heroes” on the Night of Museums (May 18), master class on the restoration of leather goods and laboratory processing of archaeological collections on Restorer’s Day (July 1), lecture “Where did Tatar Zilant come from and what does he have in common with the Chinese dragon” as a part of the Lectorium «Миллиард.Татар» (August 2), lecture-promenade “Kazan Kremlin through the eyes of an archaeologist” on Archaeologist’s Day as a part of the Archaeology Open Days, organized by the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (August 15-16), curatorial excursion on the Night of Arts (November 4), game “Archemafia” from the staff of the Manege Exhibition Hall.
