The corypheus of Tatarstan archаeology E.P.Kazakov celebrates his 90th birthday!
Today Evgeny Petrovich Kazakov, archaeologist, Doctor of History, known far beyond Russia, celebrates his 90th birthday.
Evgeny Petrovich has been working in the structure of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences for 57 years: he started in February 1967 as a junior research fellow at the G. Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Kazan branch of the Academy of Sciences USSR. In the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh.Khalikov he has been working since the establishment of the Institute in 2014 as a chief research fellow at the Department of Medieval Archaeology.
He is the author of more than 300 publications, including 14 monographs. Yevgeny Petrovich’s whole life is connected with large field expeditions, outstanding discoveries of archaeological sites and studies of ancient and medieval history of the peoples of the Volga-Urals.
One of the main fields of E.P. Kazakov’s many-sided scientific work is archaeological research related to the study of the origin and early history of the Tatars, the Ugro-Magyars in the Volga-Urals. An important stage was the studies conducted by E.P. Kazakov at the Tankeyevka burial ground in the Middle Volga region – a unique monument with world renown.
