Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies strengthen cooperation in archaeology
On May 14, 2025, at the KazanForum2025, the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the International Institute for Central Asian Studies. The document outlines joint scientific research, the exchange of information and specialists, and the organization of conferences and seminars.
Since 2020, the Institute of Archaeology TAS has been actively collaborating with the International Institute, implementing projects such as the International Archaeological School. The School focuses on training young scientists and has been successfully held in member states of the organization: in 2022 in Samarkand (Uzbekistan), in 2023 in Osh (Kyrgyzstan), and in 2024 in Termez (Uzbekistan). Details about the project can be found on the institute’s website and social media.
The new memorandum will strengthen the partnership, expand archaeological expeditions, and enhance efforts to preserve cultural heritage. Particular emphasis is placed on the project to include the Volga-Caspian corridor of the Silk Road in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
As highlighted in an interview by the institute’s director, Evren Rutbil, the Institute of Archaeology TAS has extensive experience in preserving and promoting cultural heritage at the international level. This experience, he noted, will prove valuable and interesting to other countries.
