International conference “History and culture of peoples Steppe Eurasia: traditions and interaction”

On March 30-31, 2024, Kazan hosted the International conference “History and culture of peoples Steppe Eurasia: traditions and interaction” with the participation of Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky, Director of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies Evren Rutbil, President of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences Rifkat Minnikhanov, Director of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnology Far- Eastern Branch RAS Nikolai Kradin and others.

The conference was the first scientific event of the International Center for Steppe Eurasia Studies, established as the unit of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.
The conference discussed topical issues and prospects of research on the material culture of Steppe Eurasia; results of archaeological studies of Steppe Eurasia in last years; development of historical and ethnological research of Steppe Eurasia; issues of terminology and realities of Eurasian steppe empires; forms of adaptation, integration and interaction of Turkic and Finno-Ugric peoples in the Russian state in the second half of the 16th – early 20th centuries; the Golden Horde heritage of Eurasia and its role in the historical memory of peoples; role and place of Steppe Eurasia in global world history.

As a result of the discussions, the international program of the International Center for Steppe Eurasia Studies was drafted and approved.

As a part of the conference there were a round table session “Eastern choice of Rus: prince Alexander Nevsky and the Golden Horde” and the presentation of joint proceedings of the Institute of History named after Sh. Marjani of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences and the Chuvash State Institute of Humanities, as well as solemn events, dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the International Public Organization “Association of Researchers of the Golden Horde” and the 10th anniversary of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.

More than 120 specialists on history and culture from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Romania, Turkey, Uzbekistan, as well as 28 regions of Russia took part in the conference.
