Exhibition of the Institute of Archaeology of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences for pupils of the Kids’ IT park
April 18th is celebrated worldwide as the International Day for Monuments and Sites. Any historic site is, first and foremost, a chronicle of the past, telling the story of the daily life and culture of our ancestors. Therefore, preserving and studying archaeological monuments not only helps us better and more deeply understand the past but also fosters a love for local history and a careful attitude toward cultural heritage in the younger generation.
On April 17, a scientific and educational event dedicated to this occasion was held at the Committee for the protection of cultural heritage sites of the Republic of Tatarstan. The guests and participants were pupils from the Kids’ IT park.
To vividly illustrate the work in the field of preserving, studying, and promoting archaeological heritage, the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov TAS displayed items of monumental architecture, interior decor, and toys – particularly interesting for children. The exhibits spanned as far as the Astrakhan region, where institute specialists study a complex of mausoleums near the village of Lapas. A small portion of the artifacts uncovered during excavations was showcased in one of the display cases at a mini-exhibition. Among the finds were glazed tiles, architectural and structural elements from the mausoleums of the Golden Horde khans. Another display case featured decorative items—tiles and pendants – united by the common theme of birds.
Separately, children’s toys from excavations in Kazan and Sviyazhsk were presented, including rattles, various whistles, and game pieces from board games. The head of the Archaeology Department of the Committee, A.G. Nuriev, personally conducted the event and explained to the children why preserving our cultural heritage is so important.
