This work was prepared by Senior Research Associate of the National Center of Archeological Research, Sh. Marjani Institute of History, Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. It presents a brief development history of military architecture from antiquity to the modern time. The major part of the publication is a list of fortification and other military engineering definitions comprising 700 terms related to various chronological periods.

The dictionary is designed for archaeologists, historians, military engineers and a wide range of readers interested in the history of fortifications.
