The scientific work is based on the actual materials obtained during excavations of burial grounds left by the ancient carriers of various archaeological cultures populating the Middle Volga Regions and the Cis-Urals in the period from antiquity to the Early Middle Ages.

The primary feature of the range of monuments studied by the authors is the ritual of burying animals or animal parts in graves together with the deceased.
