Archaeological studies in the Yelabuga district of the Republic of Tatarstan

In June 2024 the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences jointly with the specialists of the Mining Institute of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kazan Federal University, Elabuga Institute KFU, Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University conducted a study of the raw material base of ancient copper metallurgy nearby the villages of Pokrovskoye (Sentyak) and Kotlovka in the Yelabuga district of the Republic of Tatarstan.

During the work, samples of copper ore were taken from the mines of the XVIII century to study and compare their composition with archaeological materials.

The expedition was also attended by local historians and learners of the Center for children’s and youth tourism and excursions s in Nizhnekamsk.
