A tombstone of the XVIII-XIX centuries was found on the Kazanka riverside area
Specialists of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences conduct annual reconnaissance surveys of archaeological sites in the impact zones of the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs.
In September 2023, the employees of the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy examined the Kazanka riverside area after the water level had come down. During the work, a tombstone was revealed nearby the monument to the soldiers who fell during the capture of Kazan in 1552. Information about the location of the object is provided by M.V. Troshin.
Institute specialists took photographs, recorded the coordinates of the object, and examined the surrounding area. No other archaeological artefacts have been found. According to preliminary estimates by archaeologists, the tombstone dates back to the XVIII-XIX centuries. The object was taken to the Museum of Archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan for a more thorough study.
